Live the experience:3 Days Oenological - Cultural Gatweay Visits to Monasteries in Galicia

We will arrive at the Hospedería del Monasterio de Poio and check-in.

The first day of our experience and depending on the time of our arrival, we can dedicate it to know in depth what our accommodation will be during this getaway.

The Monastery of San Juan de Poio was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1970 and there are already documents from the year 942 that prove its existence.

Actually, there are two monasteries, the old Benedictine convent, with its church, the two cloisters - one "the crucifix" and the other "the processions" - and some other rooms and the modern one, also with two parallel courtyards and a large chapel that stands out from the building.

In its garden is the granary with the largest capacity in Galicia, which gives us an idea of ​​the wealth of the monastic order since it is 121 meters long, and a unique constructive morphology since it is mounted on three rows of feet.

It is, of course, an exceptional accommodation for its architecture, history and surroundings.

We recommend visiting four places during our stay: the church, the two cloisters and the library.

Then we will enjoy a dinner in the same accommodation before relaxing thanks to the guaranteed silence and retreat and regain strength for the intense next day that awaits us.

Day 2. Visit to the Pazo de Rubianes, gardens and winery. To choose: Guided visit to Pontevedra or Traslatio route

Breakfast at the accommodation. The second day of our getaway begins, we have two options if we choose the first one we will recreate an experience unknown to many. The "Traslatio" tells the story of how the Stone Boat transported the body of the Apostle Santiago on a 7-day journey from Haifa (Palestine) to Iria Flavia (Padrón). Starting from the fishing village of Vilanova de Arousa, we will ascend the river Ulla, recalling the journey made by the remains of the Apostle Santiago in the stone boat. In this incredible walk we will see the only maritime fluvial Via Crucis in the world formed by 12 cruises, which are located at the estuary of the Ría and the banks of the Ulla River and guide this Camino de Santiago. We will navigate the last section until we reach Pontecesures and then we will make the reverse trip back to be able to finish at our starting point.

The second option is equally interesting since we will go to the Pazo de Rubianes.

Built in the 15th century, it has a majestic garden and an excellent D.O. Albariño. It is a French-style ensemble like the "petit Château", which is within the routes of the most famous camellias in Spain. Here we will visit the pazo, wineries and the whole of the historical monument. We will experience a wine tasting.

Once the visit is over, we will visitPontevedra, whose name comes from Latin and means "old bridge" and is one of the jewels of the Portuguese Camino de Santiago.

City that, it is believed, was founded by one of the heroes of the Trojan War when he was exiled by his father.

So far, the archaeological remains do not show any occupation of the area until the arrival of the Roman Empire. It is estimated that its foundation took place during the conquest of "Gallaecia" (Galicia) and as a corroboration of this, a pillar appears at the southern head of the Puente del Burgo as a tribute to the Emperor Hadrian of the year 137.

We will have a guided tour knowing its most emblematic monuments such as the Basilica of Santa María La Mayor, the Plaza de la Leña or the Mercado de Abastos.

Once the chosen option is finished, we can head towards our accommodation for a more than well-deserved rest.

Day 3. Breakfast, end of services

This last day, we will have breakfast and then, we will check-out. Depending on the time we have, we can still take advantage of the morning discovering the surroundings depending on where we are heading after.
